Improving National Systems in Pakistan for Integrated Action on Refractive Error (INSPIRE 2022-26)

Goal:

Improving access to sustainable Refractive and Optical services at Primary Health Care in Pakistan.

Objective 1:

Strengthened refractive and optical services through the capacity building of PHC workers, awareness-raising, the commencement of opticianry course and establishment of optical services.

Objective 2:

Catalyse the scaling up of provision for eyeglasses through evidence generation and increased political and financial commitment for refractive and optical services by the Punjab government.

Methodology summary:

The project has adopted a trickle-down cascade approach to train Lady Health Supervisors, resulting in the training of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) in both District. The Project also trained Medical Officers, Medical Technologists (MTs), and School Health & Nutrition Supervisors from Basic Health Units (BHUs) in Primary Eye Care and Vision Screening. The trained personnel will work on establishing and enhancing referral networks from local communities to establish Rural Health Centers (RHCs). Additionally, 20 Optometry Clinics have been established at the RHC level, staffed with optometrists who offer Primary Eye Care services, supported by necessary equipment as part of the initiative.


Pakistan Inclusive Eye Health (PIEH 2023-27) is being implemented District Khanewal

Aim:

PIEH aims to improve equitable access to sustainable quality eye health services for women and men, with and without disabilities and/or belonging to other marginalized groups in target area (Khanewal)

Methodology summary:

Eye health services are improving quality, coverage and equitable access to eye care services for marginalised groups. Eye health facilities that we work with are disability-inclusive and are making dedicated efforts to reach marginalised communities. Advocacy, lobbying and engagement with relevant stakeholders for promoting and influencing inclusive eye health strategies, data and operationalisation. Additionally, 12 Optometry Clinics have been established at the RHC and THQ level with deployed Optometrists and necessary equipment support.
